Toshiba HD-DVD HD-DVD HD-A20 Region Free

Procedure for making the HD-A20 into a PAL capable HD-EP10 regionfree player.

First of all ensure that your TV or projector can handle PAL.

Even though the HD-EP10 can playback NTSC, it will have PAL as default video system.

1) Run 'HD-A20 rollback ver2.1.iso' to make the A20 player PAL capable

2) RUN 'HD-A20 to HD-EP10 ver2.5 regionfree.iso' to make the A20 player into an EP10 region free player

3) Upgrade to HD-EP10 firmware version 4.0

Be aware that firmware upgrades on Toshiba HD-DVD players take quite a long time. Especially Step 5 of 5.

Whatever you do, DON'T turn it off manually during the upgrade process. Let it finish by itself. It will

turn off automatically, but you have to turn it on again manually with the remote. The regionfree firmware upgrade will require 2 restarts.

After making the A20 into an EP10 player, you can upgrade with normal EP10 firmware and it will stay PAL capable and region free.

Procedure for reverting HD-A20 from PAL capable HD-EP10 regionfree to NTSC only HD-A20 Region 1.

1) Run 'Revert to HD-A20 disc1.iso'

   This will revert the firmware to version 2.5. Only necessary if you upgraded the firmware after making it regionfree

2) Run 'Revert to HD-A20 disc2.iso'

   This will revert the firmware to version 1.6. Needed for changing back to A2-mode.

3) Run 'Revert to HD-A20 disc3.iso'

   This will change your player back to HD-A2 on firmware version 2.5

4) You can now upgrade to HD-A20 firmware version 4.0
