CyberLink PowerProducer 6 Ultra

CyberLink PowerProducer 6 Ultra is the still-sold consumer disc authoring app that lists DVD, AVCHD, Blu-ray, and AVCREC on CyberLink’s product page. Public link-out to the official site (trial available).

Guide: DVD-Video

  1. Launch PowerProducer → Produce Movie Disc → DVD.
  2. Add video clips from HDD or capture devices. Arrange order; edit chapters.
  3. Pick a menu template; customize titles and layout.
  4. Select Prefer Quality or Prefer Capacity. Preview.
  5. Burn to DVD±R or create an ISO. Enable verify when offered.

Guide: AVCHD

  1. Produce Movie Disc → AVCHD.
  2. Import HD clips (AVCHD cam files work best). Build the menu for HD display.
  3. Set target media (DVD for AVCHD-on-DVD). Start production.
  4. If the built-in burner fails UDF requirements, output folders and burn with ImgBurn UDF 2.50.

Guide: Blu-ray / AVCREC (when licensed)

  1. Select Blu-ray or AVCREC project types your edition unlocks.
  2. Import HD/AVC material; author menus; burn BD-R or AVCREC media as documented in-app.

tsMuxeR

tsMuxeR remuxes video/audio/subtitle streams into MPEG-TS / M2TS / Blu-ray structures without re-encoding. It is the companion tool for AVCHD and BD authoring when containers need fixing.

Guide: remux to M2TS for AVCHD

  1. Open tsMuxeR GUI. Add a source (MKV, M2TS, TS, EVO, etc.).
  2. Tick the video and audio tracks you need. Avoid incompatible PCM layouts unless the authoring app supports them.
  3. Output: M2TS file (or Blu-ray folder if building a minimal BD tree).
  4. Start muxing. Import the M2TS into multiAVCHD / TMPGEnc / PowerProducer.

Guide: Blu-ray folder demux/remux

  1. Add playlist or M2TS from a BDMV tree.
  2. Select tracks; output new M2TS or BD structure.
  3. Do not use this to strip commercial AACS – that is out of scope and not supported here.

Sony DVD Architect Pro 6.0

DVD Architect Pro 6 (Sony) is menu-centric DVD authoring, often fed from Vegas Pro renders. Pro builds also expose Blu-ray / AVCHD project types.

Guide: DVD-Video

  1. New DVD project. Set disc size, video standard, and widescreen flags.
  2. Import MPEG-2 program streams / VOBs already encoded for DVD (Architect prefers compliant media; re-encode in Vegas or TMPGEnc if needed).
  3. Create a menu page: background still or motion video, buttons with link actions (Play title, Jump to chapter, Playlist).
  4. Set end actions and first-play so the disc behaves like commercial DVDs.
  5. Optimize / Prepare to build VIDEO_TS. Fix any flagged non-compliant assets.
  6. Burn or write ISO; verify; test on hardware.

Guide: AVCHD / Blu-ray structure

  1. Choose AVCHD or Blu-ray project (license-dependent).
  2. Import HD assets; design HD menus.
  3. Prepare the BDMV tree. For AVCHD-on-DVD burn with UDF 2.50 via ImgBurn; for BD-R use BD burner settings.
  4. Test on the target player family before duplicating.

Ulead / Corel VideoStudio 11

Ulead VideoStudio 11 (Archive) is an editor + disc wizard combo from the mid-2000s HD transition. Use it when you want timeline edits and a guided DVD/AVCHD burn in one app.

Guide: edit then author DVD-Video

  1. Capture or import footage to the library. Edit on the timeline (cuts, titles, music).
  2. Share / Create Disc / Produce → DVD. Choose NTSC/PAL and 4:3/16:9 to match the timeline.
  3. Arrange clip order for the disc; auto-chapters or manual markers.
  4. Select a menu theme; customize text. Preview the remote navigation.
  5. Fit-to-disc: if the project is too big, lower the quality preset or trim.
  6. Burn or create ISO. Test on a standalone DVD player.

Guide: AVCHD / HD disc wizard

  1. After editing in HD, open the disc wizard and choose AVCHD (or HD DVD if your exact SKU lists it).
  2. Confirm the timeline render settings match HD (do not downscale to 720×480 by accident).
  3. Create the disc image / BDMV structure; burn DVD for AVCHD players with UDF 2.50 if required.
  4. If HD DVD options appear, you still need HD DVD media and a compatible burner – rare today; prefer playback testing of commercial discs in PowerDVD/TMT instead.

Other formats

For VCD/CVD use VCDEasy/DeVeDe. For 8KDVD use the 8KDVD tools. VideoStudio 11 is not a CBHD authoring app.

TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4

TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 is a commercial Windows DVD + AVCHD/BD-structure authoring suite with a serious menu editor. Members get the Archive build. Work in an XP/Win7 VM if modern Windows fights the installer.

Guide: DVD-Video end-to-end

  1. File → New Project → DVD-Video. Set TV system (NTSC/PAL) and aspect (4:3 / 16:9).
  2. Add video files to the track list. Use the cut window to trim heads/tails. Insert chapter points at scene changes or every N minutes.
  3. Open the Menu wizard / Menu editor. Pick a theme or design from scratch: title button, chapter submenu, audio/subtitle menus, end actions (return to menu vs next title).
  4. Simulation: preview remote-control behaviour before encode.
  5. Output: create DVD files (VIDEO_TS) or burn. Watch the bitrate meter – if the project exceeds DVD-5, enable higher compression, dual-layer, or split titles.
  6. Burn with AW4 or hand VIDEO_TS to ImgBurn. Verify. Test in a cheap standalone DVD player (PC software is more forgiving than living-room decks).

Guide: AVCHD end-to-end

  1. New Project → AVCHD (or BD/AVCHD per your SKU). Import HD camcorder MTS or transcoded H.264.
  2. Build HD menus sized for 1920×1080 (or the project’s HD menu size). Keep button highlights within safe areas.
  3. Compile to a BDMV + CERTIFICATE tree. Prefer AVCHD-on-DVD media size unless you are writing BD-R.
  4. Burn DVD±R with UDF 2.50 (ImgBurn) for Blu-ray player AVCHD mode. Confirm player compatibility – some decks want specific AVCHD profiles.
  5. If a clip will not import, remux through tsMuxeR first.

Not supported

VCD/SVCD/CVD, CBHD, Scenarist-class HD DVD Advanced Content, and 8KDVD browser discs. For CD video use VCDEasy/DeVeDe; for HD DVD use Scenarist/Nero HD; for 8KDVD use the 8KDVD Maker tools.

multiAVCHD

multiAVCHD builds AVCHD discs (BDMV + CERTIFICATE) you can burn to DVD for many Blu-ray players and PS3s. Free Windows tool; grab it from VideoHelp. It does not encode fancy Hollywood menus like Scenarist – it is the hobbyist path for “HD on a DVD.”

What AVCHD means here

Output is a Blu-ray-style folder set (usually AVCHD profile) on DVD±R with UDF 2.50. Players that understand AVCHD treat it like a mini Blu-ray. This is not HD DVD (HVDVD_TS), not VCD/CVD, and not 8KDVD.

Guide: full AVCHD authoring

  1. Prepare clips. Prefer native AVCHD camcorder .MTS/.M2TS, or remux MKV/MP4 to M2TS with tsMuxeR so multiAVCHD does not have to guess exotic containers. Keep audio AC3/AAC when possible.
  2. Install & launch multiAVCHD on Windows 7-class (or compatibility mode). Create a new project; set destination folder on a drive with free space > 2× your media size.
  3. Add titles. Import each clip as a title. Reorder the playlist. Set a disc name that will show on players.
  4. Chapters. Add chapter marks (interval or manual). Players use these for skip keys.
  5. Menus (optional). Use the built-in menu/slideshow options if your build includes them. Keep menus simple – complex HDMV authoring is not multiAVCHD’s strength.
  6. Media size. Choose DVD-5 (~4.3 GB usable) or DVD-9. If the bitrate estimate overfills, shorten clips, lower quality, or split to two discs.
  7. Compile. Click the create/compile button. Wait for demux/mux. Confirm the output folder contains BDMV and CERTIFICATE at the top level.
  8. Burn. Open ImgBurn → Write files/folders to disc. File system UDF, revision 2.50. Source the folder so BDMV + CERTIFICATE sit at the disc root (use “contents of folder” if prompted). Verify after burn.
  9. Test. Try a Blu-ray player / PS3 that lists AVCHD. If the disc is not recognized, re-burn UDF 2.50 (not ISO9660-only) and confirm folder names are exactly BDMV / CERTIFICATE.

Troubleshooting

  • Player shows data disc: wrong UDF revision or folders nested one level too deep.
  • Audio missing: remux with tsMuxeR selecting a player-safe AC3 track.
  • Stutters: bitrate too high for DVD media / player; re-encode H.264 to a lower AVCHD-friendly rate before mux.

Other formats

Do not use multiAVCHD for VCD, CVD, DVD-Video menus, HD DVD, CBHD, or 8KDVD.

Nero 8 Ultra Edition HD

Nero 8 Ultra Edition HD is a period all-in-one suite: Nero Burning ROM, Vision (DVD / early HD), Recode, ShowTime, and historic HD DVD / Blu-ray authoring components. Treat it as a Windows XP/Vista-era VM guest.

Guide: DVD-Video with Nero Vision

  1. Open Nero Vision → Create DVD → DVD-Video.
  2. Add video clips; trim; set chapters.
  3. Edit menu templates; preview.
  4. Burn or make image. Prefer Verify.

Guide: VCD / SVCD burn

  1. In Burning ROM or Vision, choose Video CD or Super Video CD project.
  2. Add already-encoded MPEG. For strict SVCD leave compliance on.

Guide: China Video Disc (CVD)

  1. Encode CVD MPEG-2 (352×480/576) in TMPGEnc first.
  2. Create a Super Video CD project.
  3. Turn off “Make standard compliant SVCD” (or equivalent wording).
  4. Add the CVD stream, burn CD-R, test on SVCD/CVD-capable players.
  5. If Nero rejects the file, use VCDEasy instead.

Guide: HD DVD authoring / burning (period)

  1. Use the HD DVD project types included with Ultra HD builds where present.
  2. Follow Nero’s HD DVD wizard for menus and H.264/VC-1 assets per the version’s limits.
  3. Hardware HD DVD burner + media required for physical discs; most users today only need ShowTime/Vision for playing pressed HD DVDs.
  4. Professional interactive HD DVD still belongs in Scenarist.

Guide: AVCHD

Nero Vision 5 (in Nero 8) was an early consumer AVCHD path: create AVCHD project, add HD clips, SmartEncoding, burn to DVD media as BDMV. Prefer multiAVCHD or TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 for more control.

Not CBHD

Extended tips: project choices and era hardware

Nero 8 is a suite: Burning ROM for raw project types, Vision for guided movie discs, Recode for bitrate fitting, ShowTime for playback. For CVD, Vision/Burning ROM Super Video CD projects with compliance disabled is the period method; if the UI still rejects half-D1 MPEG-2, stop fighting Nero and finish in VCDEasy. For DVD-Video, Vision menus are adequate for home videos; escape to DVDStyler or Architect when you need layered menus and playlists.

HD DVD features in Ultra HD builds assume mid-2000s drivers and often physical HD DVD burners that barely exist retail today. Treat HD DVD authoring here as archival experimentation: keep projects small, verify on a software player first, and do not expect modern Windows 11 to install cleanly without a VM. Interactive studio titles still need Scenarist Advanced Content with a dongle.

AVCHD in Vision 5: create an AVCHD project, add HD clips, let SmartEncoding fit DVD media, burn BDMV. Always confirm UDF 2.50 if you burn outside Nero. Compare results with multiAVCHD on the same clips – multiAVCHD often muxes cleaner for picky Blu-ray decks.

ShowTime / Vision playback of commercial HD DVDs is the realistic daily use on a machine that still has an HD DVD drive. Keep firmware and AACS client components of that era aligned; this site’s decrypt section is separate and outbound-only for a reason.

Sonic Scenarist for HD-DVD 4.5

Sonic Scenarist for HD-DVD 4.5 is the professional Advanced Content authoring system used for commercial HD DVD titles. Archive listing includes Advanced Content 4.5, Standard Content 4.1.2, and training materials. A hardware dongle was required historically – we do not supply keys or dongles.

Guide: HD DVD Advanced Content (overview)

  1. Install on a certified Windows workstation of the era; attach the Scenarist dongle if you have one.
  2. Prepare assets: VC-1 / H.264 / MPEG-2 video per HD DVD bit-budget, plus secondary audio, subtitles, and HDi markup.
  3. Use Scenarist Designer for graphics/HDi preparation, then Advanced Content Authoring for playlists, secondary EVOBs, chapter import, scheduled events.
  4. Scenarist Formatter / pre-mastering produces the HD DVD image for replication or burner.
  5. Validate on a reference HD DVD player. Interactive titles need Advanced Content; simpler titles may use Standard Content 4.1.2.

What Scenarist does not do

  • CBHD – different navigation (CETC), codecs (AVS/DRA), protection. Not an HD DVD Advanced Content project. Read the CBHD article.
  • VCD / CVD / DVD-Video / AVCHD / 8KDVD – use the consumer tools in Free Downloads.
  • Blu-ray Disc – needs Scenarist BD / other BD suites, not this HD-DVD package.

Ulead DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus trial (Archive) focuses on consumer DVD menus; with the HD Power Pack it grows into HD DVD / AVCHD / Blu-ray era projects.

Guide: DVD-Video

  1. New Project → DVD-Video / +VR as offered. Add videos from hard disk.
  2. Use the chapter tool; mark scenes for the chapter menu.
  3. Menu wizard: intro video optional, main menu, chapter submenu. Apply themes; edit button text.
  4. Preview. Create disc / burn / ISO. Prefer quality that fits single-layer unless you intend DVD-9.

  4. Remember: this is HD DVD, not CBHD and not Blu-ray Disc Association BD-Java titles.
