FAQ

1. A title I wanted to buy has gone off sale, why?

Public Domain Reasons

HDDVD-Revived acquires films either via the public domain or via licensing. Over the years we have acquired lists of films in the public domain and source footage. However, changes in legislation mean that sometimes a film is returned to the copyright status and some simply had copyright extended past its original expiration ( https://www.marketplace.org/2018/12/28/public-domain-day-2019/ if you are interested), it's also possible that the people who provided us with our public domain list may simply have made an error. In either situation we simply pull the item from sale, we do this even if an error is suspected and we may restore it at a later time.

Licensed Content Reasons
HDDVD-Revived also licenses content for distribution, sometimes this license has a term limit at the end of which we must renegotiate the right to distribute and during that time a title will be unpublished.  Sometimes it occurs that the licensing body did not have the complete rights to offer us distribution and in those situations, we again simply pull the title. We spend a vast amount of time remastering content and obviously don't want to lose any of it, but above all else, international copyright regulations must be followed, and should an error occur, be it ours or someone else, it must be corrected.

2. The disc won't play in my sony 4K or 8K device, what do i do?

We have recently been made aware of a compatibility issue with some sony devices including the Playstation. We are investigating the issue.

2. I noticed a Copywrite notice on your discs, I thought this was all public domain?

Some of our content I licensed to us from independent production organizations, and others are our own cuts of a public domain. We do not and cannot own Copywrite on a public domain movie, we can only own Copywrite on our distinct version, we edit EVERY SINGLE FILM before release, digitally upscale, enhance the audio, pan scan to 16:9 regrade the color. Not one frame will be like anyone else's, but if you wanted to try and do something similar starting from a public source file, you are legally allowed to, you simply cannot copy our discs.
