Toshiba HD-DVD HD-XA2 Region Free

Procedure for making the HD-XA2 into a PAL capable HD-XE1 regionfree player.

First of all ensure that your TV or projector can handle PAL.

Even though the HD-XE1 can playback NTSC, it will have PAL as default video system.

1) Run 'HD-XA2 rollback ver1.3.iso' to make the XA2 player PAL capable

2) RUN 'HD-XA2 to HD-XE1 ver2.5 regionfree.iso' to make the XA2 player into an XE1 region free player

3) Upgrade to HD-EX1 firmware version 4.0

Be aware that firmware upgrades on Toshiba HD-DVD players take quite a long time. Especially Step 5 of 5.

Whatever you do, DON'T turn it off manually during the upgrade process. Let it finish by itself. It will

turn off automatically, but you have to turn it on again manually with the remote. The regionfree firmware

upgrade will require 2 restarts.

After making the XA2 into an XE1 player, you can upgrade with normal XE1 firmware and it will stay PAL

capable and region free.
